the story.
Bruxa magaZine is a Chicago-based media publication devoted to the raw power of visual media, live music, activism, cinema —and those who live for it
…and consume it.
We’re here for those who dress up for the pit. Who scream every lyric like a ritual. Who hold on to the details: the flash of stage light, the grip on the mic, the blur of motion, and the power of the music that still means everything.
Bruxa doesn't just capture people and music, we want to amplify resistance.
From the pit to the picket line, we care deeply about spotlighting movements, the voices that demand to be seen.
Bruxa also exists to amplify individuals, whether on stage, in the crowd, behind the lens. We celebrate people not for their status, but for their passions, expression, and what they want to give to the world.
We also have a deep love for cinema—not just as entertainment, but as a mirror, a protest, a piece of visual poetry. We spotlight films that challenge power, explore identity, and leave audiences changed. Just as in music, we’re drawn to the moments on screen that feel alive, dangerous, and necessary.
Bruxa Magazine sits at the intersection of music, people, resistance, cinema, and visual obsession.
This magazine was founded by Baitul Javid, an independent photographer and self-proclaimed gamer nerd with a love for mixed media, music, and people. (Extra points for who can guess which video game inspired the name). Bruxa grew out of the need to document experiences that possess us and the people who give themselves to their passions completely, while also serving as an allegory for what it feels like to try to navigate this capitalistic hellscape.
It was also created out of a need to support independent photographers, digital, and mixed media artists to connect, collaborate, and support one another. Where documenting is a shared obsession, not a competition.
We’re not critics. We’re not chasing clout. We’re just here out of love for music, people, cinema, causes that matter, and the love of creating media.
Bruxa is a magazine for those who “feed” on what keeps us alive.
