bruxa’s bestiary
artists
Species: Human, Fae-touched, or Dream-Born
Class: Bard
Habitat: Attics, alleys, abandoned warehouses, anywhere with light and ruin
Disposition: Restless, possessed, defiant
The artist is a creature caught between worlds—never fully here, never entirely gone. Armed with ink, pigment, scraps, or screens, they tear open the veil and drag truth out by its teeth. Their work is a form of ritual, often misunderstood, sometimes feared. Each piece they create is a fragment of their soul, left exposed to the elements and to judgment.
They survive on little—cheap wine, found objects, heartbreak—but burn brighter than most. Signs of an artist’s lair include: walls stained with experiments, the scent of turpentine or toner, and a disturbing abundance of unfinished ideas.
Do not attempt to cage an artist. They do not take well to captivity. Their power lies in their freedom to imagine what others dare not.
TOast best
Toast Best started as a username in 2019 and became something much more. “Toast” came from what was affordable at the time—cheap, versatile, and always on hand during hard times. Raised on the South Side of Chicago, Toast lived through poverty, violence, and systemic racism. “Best” is their real last name, which he believes adds to the irony of the struggle.
Art became the outlet—a way to process and resist. Influenced by underground rap, hood irony, and everyday survival, Toast Best creates with ink, graphite, paint, and colored pencil. Their work dives deep into mental health, racial identity, poverty, and the raw texture of growing up in Chicago.
Music and fashion fuel their style, but the heart of their work is storytelling—honest, gritty, and rooted in lived experience. Toast Best isn’t just a name; it’s a way of making meaning out of adversity.
