“The East Wing” by Baitul Javid

A bald eagle lays exposed over a backdrop similar to an architectural blueprint.  Its “west” wing is fully intact while its “east” wing dissolves into a pixelated digital static. Vanishing before our eyes, completely destroyed while we can do nothing to stop the erasure. The image reflects the fractured state of a major defining symbol of the USA in 2025. A symbol of strength and unity have been distorted under the weight of corruption. 

The title references the East Wing of the White House, historically tied to the history of women’s civic presence, being demolished before our eyes in the digital spaces, against the will of the people, only to be replaced by a ballroom for the oligarchic elite. It was destroyed before the people even could realize its loss. East Wing captures that vanishing: a national emblem dissected, a historical symbol of equality and justice erased within the noise of the algorithm.
